earning, growing and creating opportunities for children in Sri Lanka's tea-growing communities
Education among the tea fields
Located in the heart of Abbotsleigh Estate, among the tea fields, is the CommuniTea Centre. Here, children from the surrounding community can access additional education and develop new skills. For many families, whose parents work on the tea plantations, the centre provides a place where children can learn close to home and continue to grow and develop.
A place to learn and grow
At the CommuniTea Centre, children take part in English lessons and activities focused on developing digital skills. It is wonderful to see them participate with enthusiasm and gradually build their knowledge and confidence. The centre provides a familiar and supportive environment where children have the opportunity to learn, ask questions and discover new interests.
Investing in better learning resources
Over the past few months, several improvements have been made to better support education at the centre. Thanks to an improved internet connection, pupils now have access to a wider range of online learning materials and can more easily find information for school assignments. In addition, colour printers have been introduced, allowing worksheets and practice materials to be printed in colour. During typing lessons, for example, colour coding helps pupils learn which fingers correspond to which keys.
Creating lasting impact through Tea of Life
Our contribution does not stop at a single project. For every kilogram of Tea of Life tea sold, we invest €0.25 directly into projects that benefit tea-growing communities and local smallholder farmers in Sri Lanka. This support contributes to improved living conditions, access to education and healthcare, and the promotion of sustainable farming practices.
Better tea, better life.
